Fuel Doctor Cures Ills!
Motor Racing continues to call for unique products and ideas, one
of the latest being the OZRACE PRODUCTS Fuel Doctor, a fuel regulator and
distribution system that has the great advantage of controlling pressure
without restricting the flow.
OZRACE PRODUCTS Proprietor, Robert Madden ran up against the
problem with his nitrous equipped drag car of losing fuel pressure during
a run. As there is no fuel reservoir or fuel bowl on the fuel solenoid
this then meant that the mixture was not consistant for the whole run,
also meaning that to have correct fuel pressure at the finish line he had
to run a higher pressure at the start line - thus losing horsepower. Rob
tried using the readily available range of regulators, but continued to
suffer from problems. In the end he concluded that since regulators work
by restricting flow to reduce pressure at idle, when the engine requires
more flow at higher rpm, such as at the end of a quarter mile, fuel
pressure is cut dramatically because of the restriction in the system. In
Rob's case he was losing 4 to 5lb of pressure by the end of a run.
The idea for the Fuel Doctor came from fuel injection, where a
compensator or pressure relief valve bypasses fuel back to the tank to
govern volume, so that the volume is maintained subject to the bypass
being correctly tuned beforehand. The Fuel Doctor system is adjustable,
to as fine as 1/10th. of a pound increments, something virtually impossible
to achieve with standard regulators. Fine adjustment of fuel volume enhances
tuning, especially with nitrous equipped vehicles.
The Fuel Doctor both single and twin four barrels plus nitrous
applications, and Rob stresses, the Fuel Doctor is produced from machine
grade aluminium, that is X-Rayed for maximum quality control.
Accessories:
Fuel Pressure Gauge
We also manufacture a Booster Spring (Part No. 40050) for the Holley Electric Fuel
Pump. And with this item installed into the Holley Blue it performs just
short of the latest Holley Black Pump - Check the price, you will see it
is a more economical than the alternative.
